Finsumo
Privacy Policy
Overview
Finsumo is a personal expense-tracking app for iPhone. It is an independent project made and operated by an individual developer, not a company. Finsumo has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking technology of any kind. Your transactions, categories, and settings are stored on your device, and the developer has no server and no way to see any of it.
What Finsumo collects
Nothing that identifies you. Finsumo does not collect, store, or transmit your name, email address, transaction history, spending categories, account balances, or any analytics, usage statistics, crash reports, or advertising identifiers. There is no sign-up and no login, so there is no account data to collect in the first place.
Local storage
All of your data — transactions, categories, tags, and settings — is stored locally on your device in the app's private on-device database. Finsumo operates no server and no remote database, and has no means of accessing this data. Uninstalling the app removes it, subject to Apple's normal app-removal behavior; a backup you made yourself (see below) may still contain a copy.
Network requests — exchange rate lookups only
The only network requests Finsumo makes are anonymous lookups of currency and cryptocurrency exchange rates, so an amount you enter in one currency can be shown, totalled, and recorded in another. These requests go to:
- An open-source daily exchange-rate dataset delivered via the jsDelivr CDN
(
cdn.jsdelivr.net), with an automatic fallback mirror (currency-api.pages.dev) — fiat currency rates. - CoinGecko (
api.coingecko.com) — cryptocurrency and stablecoin rates.
These requests carry no user data — no account, no transaction content, nothing beyond what any plain HTTPS request inherently exposes. Like any network request, your device's IP address is visible to these services at the network layer; how each of them handles it is governed by their own respective privacy policies, not by Finsumo. If a request fails or you are offline, the app falls back to the last known cached rate and keeps working.
Backups
Finsumo writes an automatic, once-a-day snapshot of your data (a compressed file containing JSON) to on-device storage by default, or to a folder you pick yourself — which may be in your own iCloud Drive — the app never uploads it anywhere else, and this happens silently in the background with no prompt. You can also export a snapshot on demand at any time from Settings, and later restore from one. Either way, the file goes only where you or the app's own on-device backup folder puts it; once a file you exported yourself leaves the app (shared, emailed, moved), its handling and security are entirely your responsibility.
Optional import from a third-party app
Finsumo can optionally import data from a backup file produced by another expense-tracking app. This import is processed entirely on your device — the file is read locally, its contents are converted into Finsumo's own data, and nothing about the import is sent anywhere.
Not financial, tax, or investment advice
Finsumo is a personal record-keeping tool. Exchange rates it displays or uses to calculate historical values come from the third-party services above for informational purposes only, may be delayed, approximate, or occasionally inaccurate, and frozen historical values recorded at the time of a transaction are approximations, not authoritative financial or tax records. Nothing in Finsumo constitutes financial, investment, legal, or tax advice.
Subscription
Finsumo is free to use as a single-currency expense tracker — no subscription is required to record transactions, use categories and tags, view your history, back up or export your data, or import a Money Manager backup. An optional, auto-renewable subscription ("Pro") unlocks the multi-currency features: recording a transaction in a currency other than your active one, reading a period in another currency, the Bitcoin/sats display lens, and refreshing historical exchange rates. It is purchased through Apple's App Store, after any free trial shown at purchase. All billing, payment collection, and subscription management is handled entirely by Apple under Apple's own Privacy Policy — the developer never receives or has access to your payment details. Manage or cancel the subscription any time in your Apple ID account settings.
This website
This site is static HTML with no cookies, no analytics, and no tracking scripts of any kind. The one page that sends anything anywhere is the feedback form, and it sends what you type into it — your message, an email address if you chose to leave one, and which app the message is about. That submission is handled by the site's hosting provider, which forwards it through a third-party messaging service to a private chat the developer reads; the message, the optional email address, and the app name all sit with that third party. Messages stay in that chat until deleted by hand — nothing removes them automatically. None of it is used for anything other than replying to you.
Like any hosted site, the provider's infrastructure may log standard web-server data (such as IP addresses) as part of normal operation, independently of Finsumo and of anything you do in the app. Providers are described here by what they are rather than by name, so that changing one is a deployment change and not a rewrite of this page.
Requesting deletion, or withdrawing consent
There is nothing collected here to delete or to withdraw consent for — Finsumo doesn't hold anything about you on any server. If that ever changes, or if you have a question about it, the feedback form is the one route to reach the developer, and any such request is handled there.
Who is responsible
Finsumo is made and operated by an independent individual developer, not a company. The feedback form is the way to reach them.
Children
Finsumo collects no personal data from any user, of any age — there is no sign-up, no login, and no data sent anywhere except the anonymous rate lookups described above, which carry no user-identifying information. Because nothing is collected from anyone, there is nothing collected from a child either, and no parental-consent mechanism is needed, since there is no data gathered to consent to.
